Unfortunately, the built in Generative Erase doesn’t begin to compare with the Stability IA, especially when it comes to cleaning up anything with more than a basic, largely plain background. Generative Erase has struggled for me with more complex backgrounds, such as brush backgrounds in landscapes, inserting everything from signs with text on them to strange little people. Surprisingly, Perfect Eraser has even performed better in such cases.

I’m hoping, at some point, Generative Erase will be on par with that of Luminar Neo which, at this point, is significantly better. I’ve even gone so far as to use Neo as a plugin for PR 2025 and clean up my images there.

The issue with Generative AI, (whether it is in Adobe or ON1), is always that the software can’t read my mind. So, I know what I want the software to do, but the software does not. The software has to guess, and it’s guess can be wrong. But, when it does get it right, it can be a very large time saver.

The AI Masking is an incredible step forward. When it comes to making cut outs, or masking between layers. It has replaced hours of work with the line mask and/or other making tools, with a simple click, click, click, and select process. It is so fast, and it just works so well.

I am very pleased by the way that the User Interface has been refined. It is very logical, and a pleasure to use.

I am less sold on Brilliance AI. It is actually a brilliant idea. But, it does not work well with my Lumix and Olympus camera kit. My micro 4/3rds sensors are noisy, when compared to Full Frame sensors. So, I need to carryout noise reduction, on every shot, even at ISO 200. Brilliance AI needs to be more customisable. If it was, then I would be using it on almost every shot.

I’ve tried erasing in many photos and instead of just erasing the selected object(s) it “replaces” the selected object(s) with something else. As an example – I had a photo with a car in the background that I wanted to get rid of and the AI constantly replaced the car with another car! But if I used the Perfect Eraser it would replace the car with surrounding objects like ground, foliage, etc. Hopefully, ON1 will be able to improve Generative Erase. I know it can be done because I’ve used Adobe PS Generative Erase and it works like I expect it to.
